House Clearing in Bundaberg

House clearing means emptying most or all of a home in one organised job: furniture, appliances, boxes, garage and shed contents, and often the yard. It is bigger than a single tip run and different from a skip bin, because a crew does the carrying, sorting and loading for you. In Bundaberg the usual reasons are a sale, a move into care, a downsize, a rental changeover, or a property that has simply filled up over many years.

Bundaberg Rubbish Removal is a referral service. We do not own trucks or employ crews. When you send an enquiry, we pass your details, with your consent, to an independent local rubbish removal operator who can quote the job. The price, the booking and the work are agreed directly between you and that business.

What a full house clear-out usually covers

A typical clear-out in Bundaberg, Bargara, Kepnock, Millbank or Avoca includes:

  • Furniture: lounges, beds, mattresses, wardrobes, dining settings, outdoor furniture.
  • Whitegoods and electronics: fridges, freezers, washing machines, televisions, computers.
  • General household items: clothing, kitchenware, books, linen, toys, ornaments.
  • Garage and shed contents: old tools, timber offcuts, bikes, broken garden equipment.
  • Under-house storage: common in older high-set Queenslanders in suburbs such as Bundaberg South, Walkervale and Svensson Heights.
  • Light yard waste: prunings and garden rubbish, if you ask for it when you request the quote.

Most providers separate what can be donated, recycled or sold before the rest goes to landfill. Fridges, mattresses, e-waste and scrap metal are commonly diverted, and Bundaberg Regional Council lists several of these as free to drop at its waste facilities.

What a clearing crew will not take

Every operator sets its own limits, but these items are almost always excluded from a standard house clearing job:

  • Asbestos or suspected asbestos. This includes fibro sheeting, old eaves, vinyl tiles with backing, and broken cement sheet. These referrals do not cover asbestos. In Queensland asbestos must be handled under specific rules, and larger or friable jobs need a licensed removalist. If you think part of the house contains asbestos, keep it separate and arrange a specialist first.
  • Chemicals, fuel, gas cylinders that are not empty, and paint in bulk.
  • Ammunition, explosives and medical sharps.
  • Food scraps and liquids left in fridges or containers.

Telling the provider about these before the quote avoids delays on the day.

How a house clearing job works

  1. Describe the property. Number of rooms, how full each one is, whether there is a garage, shed or under-house area, and how the truck can get in.
  2. Send photos. A few wide photos of each room let a provider give a realistic range. Many will still want to inspect a large or very full home.
  3. Decide what stays. Mark or move anything you are keeping. Family members often sort keepsakes first, then hand the rest over.
  4. Agree the price and the date. Ask what the quote includes: labour, tip fees, travel, heavy items, and any after-hours charge.
  5. Clearing day. The crew loads room by room, usually sweeping as it goes. A full three-bedroom home may take one long day or be staged over two.
  6. Final check. Walk through with the crew before they leave to confirm nothing was missed or taken by mistake.

How pricing is usually worked out

Rubbish removal providers in Australia most often price by volume, measured as a share of the truck or in cubic metres. Heavy loads such as soil, bricks and concrete may be priced by weight instead. Things that push a quote up include:

  • Volume: the biggest factor. A full house is many cubic metres.
  • Access: stairs, long carries, narrow driveways and high-set homes take longer.
  • Item type: mattresses, tyres and some appliances can carry disposal charges.
  • Sorting effort: separating donations and recycling adds labour time but can lower tip costs.
  • Timing: same-day, weekend or after-hours bookings may cost more.

Ask for a written quote that names what is included. If two quotes differ widely, check whether one leaves out tip fees or limits the load size.

House clearing versus a skip bin or the tip

You have three broad options in Bundaberg:

Option Best when Trade-off
Self-haul with council vouchers You have a ute or trailer, time and a small load Eligible households receive two free domestic vouchers a year, each up to 500 kg; you do all the lifting
Skip bin hire Waste builds up over days, such as a renovation You load it yourself; placement and weight limits apply
House clearing crew The home is full, time is short, or lifting is not practical Higher labour cost, but the job is done in one visit

Skip bin hire is a separate service and is not what this site connects you with.

Preparing the house before clearing day

  • Remove valuables, documents, photos and keys.
  • Empty fridges and freezers of food, and switch them off a day early so they can defrost.
  • Disconnect gas appliances using a licensed gas fitter, and have plumbed items disconnected where needed.
  • Make sure power is on if the crew needs lighting in sheds or under the house.
  • Arrange parking space for the truck close to the front door.
  • Tell the provider about pets, locked rooms or any areas they should not enter.

Bundaberg conditions that affect a clear-out

Bundaberg summers are hot and humid, and the wet season can make yards soft. Early-morning bookings are common for big jobs. Many older homes are high-set with storage underneath, which adds stairs and carrying time. Properties out towards Gin Gin, Childers or Woodgate may attract a travel charge, so mention the suburb when you ask for a quote.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a full house clear-out cost in Bundaberg?

There is no fixed price because volume, access and item type vary so much. Providers usually quote by the share of a truck or by cubic metre. A small unit may need a fraction of a load, while a full family home with a shed can fill several loads. Send photos of every room and ask for a written quote that includes tip fees.

Can I keep some items and have the rest cleared?

Yes. Most clearing crews work from your instructions. Move or clearly label anything you are keeping, and walk through the house with the crew lead before they start loading.

Will the crew sort items for donation or recycling?

Many operators separate furniture in good condition, metals, e-waste and mattresses from general waste. Ask the provider what they divert and whether they deliver to local charities. Charities can refuse stained or damaged goods, so not everything can be reused.

What if there is asbestos in the house or shed?

Stop and do not include it in the clearing job. This service does not cover asbestos. In Queensland, a homeowner can only remove a small area of bonded asbestos under strict conditions, and anything larger or friable needs a licensed asbestos removalist. Bundaberg Regional Council only accepts asbestos at its Bundaberg Waste Facility, with conditions.

How long does a house clearing job take?

A single room may take under an hour. A full three-bedroom home with a garage usually takes most of a day, and very full or hoarded homes can take several days. The provider will estimate time once they have seen photos or inspected.
